Abstract:

A mathematical model for the sinusoidal vibratory response of a thin plate subjected to a through the thickness temperature gradient is developed. An 85 copper15 niobium composite plate was modeled using a temperature and frequency dependent model of the modulus. This modulus is based on a time dependent stress-strain constitutive relationship incorporating fractional calculus. Calculations were performed in the Laplace domain which facilitates straightforward manipulation of terms and equations. The resulting formulation accounts for the change in stiffness and damping characteristics through the thickness caused by viscoplastic effects due to the temperature gradient.
