Abstract:
The principal objective of this research is to obtain an improved understanding of the structure of laminar flames burning hydrocarbon fuels, alcohol fuels, and blends of hydrocarbon and alcohol fuels. This works attempts to support the U.S. Armys research and development programs in alternative fuels. Since, there is convincing evidence that turbulent reacting flows can be modelled as statistical ensemble of laminar flamelets, an experimental, numerical and analytical study was undertaken to clarify the structure and mechanisms of extinction of laminar diffusion flamelets, laminar premixed flamelets and laminar partially premixed flamelets.
