Abstract:
This thesis is a study of the Naval Military Personnel Command NMPC and its requirements to interconnect office arealocal area networks and mainframe resources to form a comprehensive, organization-wide internet. The paper serves three purposes it examines NMPCs organizational environment and internet requirements, proposes alternative internet configurations and recommendations, and uses information systems management lessons learned in studying NMPC to make internet planning recommendations of use to other Department of Defense organizations. It is written with the assumption that the reader is familiar with local area networks and accepted government and industry standardization guidelines however, a series of detailed appendices covering these subjects is provided as an aid to the unfamiliar reader.
