Abstract:
This Memorandum describes research on the use of automatic speech recognition in the cockpit of an aircraft. Such applications are commonly referred to as Direct Voice Input or simply DVI. The research used a BAC I-II aircraft and was concerned with the civil flight deck. The Memorandum aims to draw out the lessons learned and refer them to military operations. Trial currently underway using a Tornado GRI are also described. This military programme is planned to build directly on the experience gained using the BAC I-II.
