Abstract:

Indias military buildup, which has of late, attracted the attention of the worlds elites is in keeping with her security implications in the coming decades. Since her independence in 1947, Indiaa military potential has not been strong enough to deter her adversaries against dragging her into wars on several occasions. India is geographically a big country, surrounded by sea on all sides, and has a vast coastline and remote island territories to defend. India has a large population of varied religions and cultures. As India strives for unity in this diversity and struggles to grow economically stronger, she needs to be insulated from external pressures. Security is a prerequisite for development.
