Abstract:

Aviation turbine fuel thermal stability is of concern because of the potential operational problems arising from the degradation of fuels when used to cool aircraft components. Within this program, investigations are proceeding to develop candidate advanced thermally stable fuels, kinetic models of fuel degradation and to measure parameters for computational fluid dynamic models to predict the degradation of fuel under various conditions. This report summarized efforts in the first year of the program to identify specific processes and parameters involved in fuel thermal degradation and to develop diagnostic instrumentation and experiment apparatus that can be used to obtain data for model development.ttl
