Abstract:

Accurate schedule estimation in software development programs is important because schedule is a major determinant of cost. Further, as a greater percentage of weapon system cost is taken by software, there is a greater need for knowledge in this area. In order to verify the accuracy of schedule prediction for software development obtainable today, this effort examined five commercially available software costschedule estimators. The estimated results were analyzed for their accuracy in predicting the actual schedules experienced on the projects. The models analyzed were REVIC, PRICE-S, System-4, SPQR20, and SEER.
