Abstract:

Controlled hydrolysis of K4Zr2OO Pr10 in the presence of CuCl2 in THF yields Cu4Zr4O3O Pr18, which was characterized by H1 and C13 NMR and infrared spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility and X-ray diffraction. Cell constants -92 deg C a 12.6738A, b 17.48213, c 10.8778, alpha 104.853, Beta 113.523, Gamma 75.653 with Z 1 in space group P1. The compound has a central planar Cu4O3O Pr2 unit terminated on two ends by Zr2O Pr8 units. The central of the three oxide ions has an unusual planar four- coordinate geometry. The central Cu48 unit shows antiferromagnetic coupling, with Mu sub eff 1 BMCu over the range 100-300K. The molecule retains its structure in toluene solution, as judged by H1 and C13 NMR. TTL
