Abstract:

The effects of acceleration on vortex growth and molecular mixing have been systematically explored for the first time in a transverse array of exponentially increasing jets. The issue is the influence of a new kind of forcing which imposes on a vortex a time scale from an exponential rather than a sinusoidal wave. The results are that such forcing dramatically reduces the normalized size of the vortex. Therefore the capacity for mixed fluid inside the vortex is also reduced, by about a factor of eight at large acceleration. SDW
