Abstract:
Random copolymers of isobutyl methacrylate and t-butylaminoethyl methacrylate polyiBMA-tBAEMA have been used successfully as polymer additives for lubricants and coating materials in order to influence the fluid viscosity in polar and aprotic solvents under different conditions. However, polyiBMA-tBAEMA has been very difficult to characterize because of its aggregation behaviour due to intramolecularintermolecular interactions, which are responsible for its utility as a polymer additive in the first place. The solution behaviour of polyiBMA-tBAEMA has recently been investigated by means of laser light scattering LLS. The key to such a successful LLS study is the coincidental isorefractive nature of homopolymers of polyiBMA and polytBAEMA and of the random copolymer polyiBMA-tBAEMA. Reprints.
