Corrosion protection of Al alloys, Al-based metal matrix composites MMCs, and Al-Li alloy by conversion coatings, anodized layers, polymer coatings, and chemical passivation in CeCl3 has been evaluated in a simulated marine environment 0.5 N NaCl by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS. Conversion coatings, anodizing, polymer coatings have been evaluated for MgAZ31B. Chromate conversion coatings Alodine 600 provided corrosion protection for AlSiC and AlGr MMCs, but were not as effective as for Al 6061. For AlSiC it was observed that sulfuric acid anodizing did not produce the corrosion resistance obtained for the Al 6061. The corrosion resistance for hard anodized AlSiC was less than that for conventional anodized AlSiC.
