The spectrum of a sixth order differential operator is examined asymptotically in the high Reynolds number limit. The eigenvalue problem investigated arises in the study of the fluid motion in a coning and rotating fluid filled cylinder. It is shown that the approximation procedure derived at high Reynolds numbers predicts very accurately the required eigenvalues.
