Abstract:

Recent development in magnetic flux technology have made possible the creation of an inspection system that automatically detects and evaluates surface and subsurface defects in projectile bodies with high reliability and lower cost than competing measurement schemes. The device is capable of detecting the orientation. Operating automatically, the system can load, scan, unload, and segregate acceptable and defective parts without operator intervention. This report establishes the difference between this technique and the ultrasonic method which is currently used in production.
