The Lithium Concentration Dependence of Creep in Binary Aluminum-Lithium Alloys

An investigation was conducted into the concentration dependence of creep of binary Aluminum-Lithium alloys. Constant true-stress creep and constant extension-rate stress-strain tests were conducted at temperatures ranging from 250 C to 500 C. Optical microscopy demonstrated that subgrains formed during deformation and that the predominant physical processes in the creep of Aluminum-Lithium alloys appears to be dislocation climb, with Lithium providing strengthening by its effect on the modulus or the stacking fault energy.
