Abstract:

This is a formulation report and user guide for a two-degree-of- freedom flight trajectory computer program. The program, called ETO, runs on IBMcompatible XTAT microcomputers. It is designed for very short run times, i. e., less than 1 to 3 minutes. Horizontal or low angle takeoff single-stage or two-stage vehicles can be studies. Ascent to earth orbit or constant speed cruise can be studied. Any combination of airbreathing or rocket propulsion may be used. Working from tabular data for propulsion performance, aerodynamics, and vehicle weight and fuel, the governing equations of motion are integrated forward in time to track velocity, altitude, range, flight path angle, and weight.
