The goal of this program is to demonstrate coherent sum frequency generation into the U.V., with energy conversion efficiencies of the order of several per cent. A facility was developed needed to perform these measurements. The source consists in a synchronously pumped dye laser oscillator tunable to the various two-photon transitions of lithium followed by a 2 3 stage NdYag frequency doubled pumped dye laser amplifier.
