Abstract:

Enhancements to the Naval Ocean Systems Centers Longwave Propagation Prediction Capability will be described. The propagation model applies waveguide concepts to very low frequency vlf 10 kHz to 30 kHz and low frequency 1f 30 kHz to 100 kHz radio propagation. A collection of computer programs which are exercised separately or in sequence depending on the application will be described. The individual component programs are being developed andor modified as needed to enhance the overall capability and credibility of the prediction capability. A driver program named PRESEG is being developed to automate the prediction process to the maximum degree possible. Full allowance for improvements in the propagation models is being coupled with the requirement that the future users of the capability may not be highly experienced ionospheric physicists or radio propagation analysts.
