Abstract:
The overall goal of this work was to carry out an indepth study of the properties of the excitatory amino acid neurotransmitter receptors. These receptor represent an integral part of the central nervous system, as they are responsible for the majority of the excitatory synaptic transmission, as well as being involved in higher order processes such as plasticity and excitotoxicity. Considerable advances have been made in our understanding of these receptors. The results of these studies are summarized below with respect to each of the receptor classes.
