The purpose of this document is to provide the user with the knowledge and information necessary to use the CAPS instruction sheet generation module knowledge. The Instruction Sheet generation module of the Computer Aided Processing System CAPS is a tool to aid the Manufacturing Engineer in writing modifying Instruction Sheets in the Printed Wiring Board Assembly PWA area. It was designed to be as flexible as possible while minimizing the amount of input necessary to generate Instruction Sheets. To this end, CAPS uses existing information wherever possible both CAD design data and TMCS Bills of Materials are electronically downloaded for use within CAPS. At the heart of the CAPS instruction Sheet generation module is the Method Code File, a file of discrete work elements specific to a work center, machine, or process. Due to the repetitive nature of PWB assembly, nearly all tasks necessary to manufacture a PWB have been uniquely identified, specified, time-studied, and listed in the Method Code File. These tasks remain uniquely identifiable via a three digit alphabetic identifier, the Method Code. By using this Method Code File in conjunction with the Bill of Materials for a given PWB, it becomes a fairly straightforward function to specify an instruction sheet the Manufacturing Engineer simply specifies which method codes to apply to which BOM item numbers and groups like tasks into separate operations.
