Abstract:

An existing computational capability has been applied to assess the aerodynamic performance of a novel railgun projectile currently being investigated. The viscous flow field over the railgun configuration has been computed using a Parabolized Navier-Stokes computations technique. The configuration has been determined. Using the computed pitch-plane aerodynamic coefficients, it was concluded that the proposed design is aerodynamically stable.
