Abstract:

The overall objective has been to develop further basic knowledge in combustion that will be useful for improving efficiencies and operating characteristics of propulsion system. Insufficient understanding of the basic mechanisms and processes involved in advanced air breathing combustors, lack of realistic guidelines for predicting characteristics of propulsion devices and of external burning, and a deficiency in methods of combustor design with acceptable pollutant emissions motivated the initiation of this research on advancing understanding of the combustion of fuels in air.
