Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to examine 163 filed complaints of sexual harassment in the Air Force for FY 1987. Variables investigated included characteristics of the complaintvictim, the alleged offender, and the complaint situations, as well as information about the confirmation process and the outcome of the complaint. Descriptive statistics showed that the characteristics of sexual harassment in this particular sample are rather similar to harassment in civilian organizations. It was also found that the hostile environment type of sexual harassment was more prevalent than the economic injury type. The implications of these results for sexual harassment training are discussed. Keywords Equal opportunity Sexual harassment Hostile environment Economic injury Gender Race Training Personnel.
