Abstract:

Measurements were made on high strength, low allow steel cylinders to determine the residual stress distributions resulting from various heat treatments. Cylinders of 239-mm outer diameter and 94-mm inner diameter were austenitized at 843 C and quenched at various rates to 93 C. Residual stress measurements were made on cylindrical cross sections which had been cut from the larger diffraction techniques, we measured tangential and radial components of stress as a function of radial position.
