Abstract:

Conductive polymers such as polyacetylene PA, polypyrrole PP, and polyparaphenylene PPP have received much attention recently due to their potential applications and also because of interest in their fundamental properties. Much effort has been placed into describing the mechanism of charge transport through polymer films. A mathematical model is presented which describes the electrochemical behavior of some polymer electrode systems. Current flow is described in terms of the diffusion and migration of ions in the polymer matrix, which leads to an overpotential gradient in the film. The model is used to describe the transient current response at a conducting polymer-modified electrode.
