Abstract:

The Army uses many different automated data systems to manage information supporting military construction MILCON programs. These data are stored on various systems in ways allowing convenient access by functional users. Many pieces of information may be repeated in the different systems in addition, a user from system A may occasionally require data unique to system B for generating reports. Thus, to ensure mutual data consistency and coherent access to information by all users, the Army needs a system for supporting data integrity and integration. The U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory USA-CERL is developing the Data Traffic Management System DTMS to support those functions. DTMS has two major subsystems Mutual Consistency Maintenance Subsystem MCMS and Query Processing Subsystem QPS. The MCMS is designed to help keep redundant data consistent from one system to the next. The QPS provides a user-friendly interface for simultaneous data retrieval from multiple systems. One of the DTMS tools to support data integrity is the Mutual Consistency Maintenance Monitor MCMM. The MCMM is a software module that automatically captures data updates in one system and posts them to other affected systems with no human supervision. This report describes the prototype MCMM and its in-house pilot testing. swd
