Abstract:

The purpose of this IDA Paper is to analyze the results of the Federal Governments transition to the ISO OSI communication protocols as mandated by the Government Open System Interconnection Profile GOSIP. This document analyzes the interoperability issues that will affect the communications between C2Is during the transition from DoD to ISO protocols. Information for the analysis was gathered from the open unclassified literature, correspondence with protocol implementors on the ARPANET, attendance at the NBS OSI Implementors workshop, and the authors implementation experience with communications protocols.
