Abstract:

The Global Positioning System GPS will be an operational military navigation system, but the civil community will have access, with degraded accuracy, to this system. The requirements for information and data about the GPS system for the civil community were investigated. An organizational structure, the Civil GPS Service CGS, was designated to have overall administrative responsibility and the Civil GPS Service CGS, was designated to have overall administrative responsibility and the Civil GPS Information Center CGIC to have the responsibility of data nd information acquisition and dissemination. The civil users were contacted through a questionaire and a workshop, an interface control document ICD was developed between the GPS operational COntrol Segment OCS ant eh CGIC, and a system level design was developed for the CGIC. Additional information about GPS was compiled in a bibliography on differential GPS, in a glossary of standard GPS terms, and in a compendium of user equipment.
