Abstract:

An in-flight investigation of the effect of head-up display symbol accuracy has been conducted using a variable stability T-33 aircraft. The results indicate that 100-200 ft lateral errors and 500-1500 ft longitudinal errors in locating a contact analog synthetic runway did not cause difficulties for the evaluation pilots. There was no apparent tendency for the subjects to follow HUD cues and ignore real world cues. Keywords Head up display, Symbology, Instrument, Flight control, Flight tests, Accuracy, Display.
