Abstract:

In this report, the design and construction of the Beam Optics Test Stand BOTS is presented. A variety of computer compatible diagnostics have been developed to facilitate experiments. Extensive theoretical work is presented leading to the identification of two potential methods to correct aberrations in magnetic optics biased grid arrays and space charge corrected solenoidal lenses. A series of experiments are presented which demonstrate, for the first time, the feasibility of space charge corrected optics.
