Abstract:
The Air Command and Staff College has established a requirement for a Local Area Network LAN. Is it really a good idea for ACSC to purchase a LAN This study reviews current technology available to ACSC to accomplish electronic communications needs. It addresses LAN capabilities and limitations, and discusses integration of a LAN into the ACSC mission. Specific ACSC tasks are identified which require or would benefit from a LAN. The study concludes that ACSC should purchase a LAN. Recommendations are made concerning 1 the network managers role 2 distribution of curriculum material via the Lan 3 a standard database format for the LAN 4 evaluation of Lan-compatible software for ACSC needs and 5 laser printer connection to the LAN as a cost-effective method for producing publications-quality text and graphics.
