Abstract:
Three ships participated in an at-sea evaluation of low level white LLW lighting as a replacement for the standard red or blue lighting in the Combat Information Center CIC and bridge area. Two out of three ships tested significantly preferred LLW lighting in the CIC area. LLW provided less fatigue, fewer headaches, increased ability to color-code information as well as less glare on CRT displays. Recommendations are made to continue the investigation of LLW in operational areas on surface ships. Keywords Test and evaluation Operational readiness, Operational effectiveness.
