Abstract:

The Processing and Classification of Enlistees PACE is a post-enlistment system that classifies nonprior-service enlistees during Basic Military Training. The current system lacks flexibility and is driven largely by short-term priorities. Therefore, the system is being enhanced to be more responsive and easy to use. The enhancement involves the development of a mathematical model called a payoff algorithm. The payoff algorithm uses information from personnel files and job files to generate a payoff a numerical value that indicates the worth to the Air Force of classifying a particular person into a particular job. The new PACE classification system will address management concerns time, money, and fill priority by classifying personnel more efficiently and address personnel concerns aptitude, interests, and trainability by classifying more effectively.
