Abstract:
The analysis of Maneuver Functional Area MFA automation requirements was conducted to determine the need, value, and impact of extending automation within the Maneuver Battlefield Functional Area BFA below the battalion level. The MFA consists of Infantry, Armor, Aviation, Military Police, Engineer, Chemical and Signal units. This is a seven part study 1 Identification of functionality software requirements 2 Identification of hardware requirements 3 Assessment of operational benefits 4 Assessment of operational burdens 5 Determination of correctable Battlefield Development Plan BDP deficiencies 6 Identification of interface requirements with other BFA control systems and 7 Cost analysis. The analysis was designed to determine and compare the various MFA proponent automation alternatives in order to identify each Operational Facility OPFAC where the addition of an automated device would substantially enhance the units capability to perform its mission. The results of this analysis will be used to formally document MFA specific hardware and software needs as an extension of the Maneuver Control System MCS. Keywords Command Control systems Command, Control, Communications Intelligence Battalion level organizations.
