Abstract:
Theoretical and experimental results are reported concerning the problem of heat transfer to bodies when there is turbulence imbedded in the freestream. Both velocity and temperature turbulence are considered and a fully variable density theory is developed. Experiments were conducted in collaboration with NASALewis. Excellent closure of theory and experiment was achieved for the case of no freestream temperature fluctuations. With no data available for comparison. no closure could be achieved for the case of temperature fluctuations, but the theory indicates that the heat transfer effect of this phenomenon is strong. Keywords Turbulence, Stagnation point, Reacting flows, Heat transfer.
