This report summarizes experimental and theoretical studies carried out during the period of Nov 1986 to Oct 1987 on laser cladding of Ni and Nb alloys for improved environmental resistance at high temperature. Major emphasis has been on Ni-Cr-Al-Hf system. Microstructural evolution and oxidation properties of these alloys were examined. For Nb alloys microstructural characterization and differential thermal analysis were carried out. One-dimensional diffusion model for finite domain to examine the extended solid solubility in laser cladding was also developed.
