Abstract:
1f noise limits the sensitivity of HgCdTe photodiodes operated in the low frequency staring mode. Because other theories have failed to account for 1f noise as a general phenomenon, the applicability of chaos theory in this material is investigated. 1f noise data from HgCdTe photodiodes are applied to the analytic technique of R. Grassborger and I. Procaccia. Analysis indicates that a chaotic phenomenon underlies the 1f noise. Construction of a model of 1 f noise in HgCdTe photodiodes consistent with the principle of chaos theory and the body of experimental knowledge about this phenomenon is begun. Initial model produced a 1f to the alpha power noise spectrum with alpha having a value close to 2. Keywords Photodiodes Mercury cadmium telluride.
