Abstract:
A turnable, low pressure CO2 transverse discharge system is described in order to test an optical preamplifier that can provide gain to incoming laser radiation in the 9-11 micrometer range without adding detectable noise. Especially high gains were observed on strong laser lines such as 10P20, suggesting the potential use of the preamplifier in certain applications including long-distance rangefinding.
