This thesis systematically and comprehesively analyze available personnel data to determine if a significant relationship exists between measures of intelligence and academic performance, and carerr promotion rate for Noncommissioned Officers. Forty thousand Noncommissioned Officer NCO records were analyzed to determine this, using three approaches. The first approach was a sequential procedure which progressed from analysis of individual variable through multivariate regression models. The second approach focused on analysis of NCOs who scored in the top three percent of promotion rate. The third approach used more advanced statistical techniques, including the use of principal components and factor analysis, to better identify the most influential explanatory variables.
