Abstract:

The current revision of the Document comprises computer program documentation for a large central computer to process data from transponder radiosondes. The program for use in minicomputer operations uses the same precepts and has been subdivided somewhat to allow the program to run on the smaller machines. The two programs produce virtually identical results. Input consists of positional and meteorological data as recorded by the tracking system real-time program. This data consists of slant range, elevation angle, azimuth, temperature, and relative humidity. Data from nontransponder radiosondes is converted to a transponder radiosonde format by a preprocessing program NTRE. The output data consists of height, wind direction and speed, temperature, dewpoint, relative humidity, absolute humidity, density, refractive index, sound velocity, wind shear, vapor pressure, and precipitable water. This disk file is used to send data out via magnetic tape or 80-column cards. It is also used as an input file to other programs. The output data is controlled by a system of records accessible to the operator. This system allows the data to be changed in minimum time between the different data types required by the users. The standard rawinsonde output is in 1,000-foot increments with the wind speed in knots.
