The primary eye irritation potential of guanidine hydrochloride was determined in male New Zealand White rabbits using a modified Draize method. The compound produced irritation in all animals tested. Signs of irritation were erythemaz and chemosis of the conjunctiva, iritis, and corneal lesions. These results indicate that guanidine hydrochloride should be classified as an ocular irritant.
