Abstract:
A neoprene compound has been developed for underwater acoutical applications that exhibits excellent bondability and very good engineering properties. This compound is based on Neoprene GRT cured with red lead and filled with carbon black. The dependence of the physical properties on the composition of the compound has been studied. Of particular importance is the effect of the type and amount of carbone black on a range of properties such as moduli and electrical resistivity. The processing and storage parameters necessary to produce a high-quality material are discussed. A quality control system based on compositional analysis is also described.
