Abstract:
The problems of obtaining homogeneous dispersions of multicomponent systems were frequently discussed at this conference. The use of acoustic emission was shown to be a useful NDT analytical tool to detect the presence of microcracks in different places. The composite systems considered at the meeting included zirconia-toughened aluminum ZTA, silicon carbide SIC fiber-reinforced pyrex, SiC fiber-reinforced silicon dioxide siO2 glass matrix, mullite-zirconia- A12O3-SiC, C-fiber-reinforced reaction-bonded SiC, ionic conducting NASICON-glass insulator composites, and GAMA A1ON-A12O3 composites. The zirconium oxycarbide system, ZrO2-ZrCxOy and ZrC-ZrCxOy composites are interesting, novel systems. Keywords Composites, Ceramic-Ceramic, SiC fibers, Homogeneous dispersions, Zirconium oxycarbides.
