Abstract:

This research program was conducted for the purpose of evaluating the feasibility of using an existing multi-animal radiation facility to expose a large population of experimental animals to electromagnetic radiation in the radiofrequency portion of the spectrum. The major conclusion of this program was that the multi-animal facility at the Georgia Tech Research Institute would provide a suitable exposure environment for investigating chronic RFR effects on the growth and differentiation of rapidly growing mammalian cells in vivo. This conclusion was reached in collaboration with experts in experimental and diagnostic pathology from Pathology Associates, Inc., Ijamsville, Maryland. The Appendix to this report presents a proposed protocol for a follow-on research program to investigate RFR bioeffects on cell growth and differentiation. This protocol identifies an animal model, animal population, exposure environment, exposure duration, and tissue assessment scheme appropriate for the proposed follow-on investigation. Keywords Cell growth and differentiation nonionizing electromagnetic radiation radiofrequency radiation microwave long-term bioeffects.
