Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to show the feasibility of an expert system to aid logistics planners in determining the types and numbers of logistics units needed to support Army corps contingency plans. The purposed system represents the domain knowledge of logistics planners as rules and uses backwards chaining to infer the types and numbers of logistics units needed. Next a chain of command, represents as a tree diagram, is developed for the recommended units by aggregating individual units into battalions and groups. The system was implemented on a VAX 11785 computer using the PROLOG programming language. Logistics plans for both a light corps and a heavy corps were used to test the system.
