Abstract:
Absolute rate constants for the reaction of boron trihydride with CO, NO, C2H4 and upper limits for the reaction of BH3 with O2 and H2 are reported using a diode laser to probe BH3 disappearance. The reactions were studied at room temperature over a pressure range of 6 to 620 torr using N2 as a buffer gas. The rate constant for reaction of BH3 CO was found to be in the intermediate pressure regime over the pressure range 10 to 620 torr of N2 with rate constants ranging from 1.5 to 47 x 10 to the - 13th cc. For BH3 NO, the rate constant was found to approach the high pressure limit of 3.7 x 10 to the - 13th cc at pressures above approx. 200 torr of N2.
