Seven nucleoside 2, 3 -dialdehydes were synthesized by periodic oxidation of inosine, 6-methylmercaptopurine riboside, thymine riboside, guanosine, 5-fluoro-5deoxyadenosine, 8-bromoadenosine, and N6, N6-dimethylaminopurine riboside, respectively. The resultant nucleoside dialdehydes, as well as the intermediate 5-fluoro-5deoxyadenosine, were submitted to the USAMRIID antiviral screening program. Keywords Antiviral agents.
