A Sergeant Rocket instrumented with a cryogenically-cooled, Michelson IR Interferometer was launched 13 April 1983 from the Poker Flat, Alaska Reasearch Rane. The purpose of the flight was to measure IR emission spectra in the 2 - 7.5 micrometer region. The flight was extremely successful and provided first-resolved spectra of carbon monoxide CO near 4.7 micrometer and of ionized nitric oxide NO near 4.3 micrometer. Further, the data from this flight provided the first high resolution spectra of atmospheric emitters as a function of altitude. These data include hydroxyl OH near 2.8 micrometer carbon dioxide CO2 near 4.3 micrometer, and nitric oxide NO near 5.4 micrometer.
