Abstract:

This article examines the impact the FA-18D multi-mission strike-fighter will have on Marine Corps Aviation during the 1990s and beyond. As an authentic force multiplier to the Marine Air-Ground Task Force commander, the FA-18D Hornet will offer a single source of reliability and effectiveness in the anti-air warfare, offensive air support, aerial reconnaissance, and air command and control missions. Specific areas addressed include 1 The expanded VMFA Marine Fighter Attack Squadron mission statement 2 The FA-18D Hornets capabilities 3 The Naval Flight Officers role and 4 Future VMFA restructure and supportability. The article concludes that the dual-cockpit Hornet is potentially the most versatile and unique tactical aircraft in the world with its multi-mission capabilities. Keywords Jet fighters.
