Large investments in intelligence collection and processing systems are producing huge amounts of intelligence information which should be available to Air Force units to plan and execute combat operations. However, deficiencies in current and planned capabilities severely limit the ability to effectively apply this intelligence information at the operational level. Rapid technological advances provide the opportunity to acquire the combat intelligence data processing, communications, and display capabilities required to support future unit-level operations. This paper defines the requirement for a standard combat intelligence system to support future Air Force unit-level operations. The combat intelligence functions to be performed by the system are described as well as the communications and data automation capabilities needed to effectively support future unit-level Air Force operations.
