A diaphragm peak pressure gage has been designed. It provides a convenient method to measure the peak overpressure due to explosion in air, or other forms of pressure transients, occurring too rapidly to be recorded by a static pressure measuring device. A diaphragm presssure gage to measure themaximum quasi-static overpressure indise en enclosure has also been designed. The overall sized of these gages are convenient and practical, and provide a distinctive mechanism whereby the pear overpressure can be read directly from a graduated scale or continuous readings can be obtained with a depth gage. These gages are ideally suited to yield accurate an reliable peak overpressure readings over a wide pressure range in hazardous envoronments presented by explosives where electronic pressure transducers are not available, the environment is not conducive to the use of electronic devices or where a back-up measuring device is desiered to ensure a reading in the event of electronic device failure. The transient diaphragm presure gage cna be calibrated to yield overpressure readings so that spurious effects such as voltage surges or fragment impacts on the gages, effects that are not caused by the pressure pulse itself, cannot yield false readings. This gage when calibrated is less sensitive to the pulse shape then prior diaghragm gages and can be calibrated to meeasure side-on or face-on peak shock overpresssures.
